Computer Science ABC

In today’s blog post we would like to share our first video we created for beginner English learners. It is the Computer Science ABC introducing English letters. We have selected some words that start with every letter of English alphabet and that are somehow related to computing and information technologies. This video could be helpful for teaching English to learners of all ages from young children to adults.

Learning English alphabet might seem unimportant. However, there are many cases where being able to spell letters is a must.

If you are travelling abroad you often need to spell your name in English to prevent troubles with your identification. You have to spell your name correctly to book a hotel room, check in and out at a reception desk, check your personal data during registration for an international conference.

Knowing English ABC helps you correctly pronounce lots of IT and computer science abbreviations. Here are some of the examples:

CPU - [siː piːˈjuː] - Central Processing Unit
HTML - [ˌeɪtʃ tiːemˈel] - HyperText Markup Language
HTTP - [ˌeɪtʃ tiː tiːˈpiː] - HyperText Transport Protocol
IP - [ˌaɪˈpiː] - Internet Protocol
OS - [ˌəʊˈes] Operating System
PC - [ˌpiːˈsiː] Personal Computer

USB - [ˌjuː.esˈbiː] - Universal Serial Bus
WWW - [ˈdʌbljuːˌdʌbljuːˈdʌbljuː] - World Wide Web

We hope that this video will be a great resource for English teachers working with students who plan their careers in the field of computer science and information technologies.
